About Me
About Me
I'm Ahmad Abdulnasir Shuaib — a software engineer, systems architect, and product builder focused on solving real-world problems with practical, scalable technology.
I work at the intersection of AI, backend engineering, and applied systems design, building tools that don't just look good on paper but actually work in production — often in complex, resource-constrained environments.
Currently, I'm an AI Software Engineer at eHealth Africa, where I help design and build intelligent systems that support healthcare delivery and clinical decision-making at scale. My work often blends machine learning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), knowledge graphs, and FastAPI-based services to power tools used by real practitioners, not demos.
What I Do Best
I specialize in end-to-end system building — from idea to deployment.
That means:
- Designing clean, scalable backend architectures
- Turning messy real-world data into useful intelligence
- Building APIs and services that teams can actually maintain
- Bridging the gap between AI research ideas and production-ready systems
I'm particularly comfortable working on:
- AI-powered platforms (RAG systems, ML inference services, decision support tools)
- Backend-heavy applications using FastAPI, Django, NestJS, and Prisma
- Multi-tenant systems with complex permissions, roles, and data isolation
- Offline-first and sync-enabled applications
- Healthcare and public-sector systems, where correctness and trust matter
AI & Applied Intelligence
A big part of my work revolves around making AI useful, not magical.
I've built and worked on:
- Clinical decision support systems using national guidelines and standing orders
- RAG architectures using vector databases (ChromaDB), Neo4j knowledge graphs, and hybrid retrieval
- ML models for scientific and engineering problems (e.g. soil behavior prediction)
- Image and media AI pipelines deployed on GPU-backed cloud infrastructure
- Structured AI outputs for regulated domains (health, finance, operations)
I care deeply about explainability, guardrails, and system design, especially when AI is used to support human decisions rather than replace them.
Product & Platform Mindset
Beyond code, I think in products and platforms.
I've led or contributed to projects like:
- Multi-store e-commerce systems with shared data and offline desktop clients
- Full hotel management platforms with access control, asset tracking, and automation
- Recruitment and talent platforms with dashboards and analytics
- Payment-enabled mobile apps and SaaS backends
- Educational platforms for kids, including culturally-focused learning tools
I enjoy shaping systems that are:
- Maintainable
- Extensible
- Human-centered
- Built to survive real usage, not just launch day
How I Work
My approach is pragmatic and intentional:
- I prefer simple systems that scale over clever ones that break
- I document decisions and trade-offs
- I'm comfortable navigating ambiguity and incomplete requirements
- I collaborate well with designers, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders
- I don't chase trends — I adopt tools when they actually solve problems
Whether I'm writing backend code, designing an API, or reviewing an AI pipeline, my goal is always the same: build something reliable, understandable, and useful.
Beyond Work
Outside of my core engineering work, I:
- Explore emerging tech in AI, distributed systems, and developer tooling
- Build side projects that test new ideas
- Mentor and share knowledge where I can
- Think a lot about how technology can work better in developing contexts
Let's Build Something That Matters
If you're looking for someone who can:
- Own complex technical systems
- Translate ideas into working products
- Build AI responsibly and practically
- Think long-term about architecture and impact
Then we'll probably get along just fine.
